How to Set Up Gmail for POP3 and SMTP Print

  • 0

Setting up your domain email (e.g., admin@yourdomain.com) in Gmail using POP3 and SMTP allows you to send and receive emails through the Gmail interface. This method is beneficial as it helps avoid issues caused by email forwarders and reduces the risk of your server’s IP being blacklisted by Gmail.

Why Use POP3 and SMTP?

Setting up POP3 and SMTP in Gmail instead of using email forwarders helps prevent Gmail from marking your server's IP address as spam. This is especially important for shared hosting customers, as it can affect other users on the same server if the IP gets blacklisted.

Steps to Set Up POP3 and SMTP in Gmail:

Access Gmail Settings:

  • Click the settings wheel in the top right corner and select Settings from the drop-down menu.

Accounts and Import Tab:

  • Click the Accounts and Import tab.

Add a Mail Account:

  • Find Check mail from other accounts and click Add a mail account.

Enter Your Email Address:

  • Enter your email address and click Next.

Import Emails from POP3:

  • Select Import emails from my other account (POP3) and click Next.

Enter Email Account Information:

  • Enter your Username (your email address), Password, and POP Server (your server's hostname) on Port 995(secure).

Secure Connection:

  • Check the box for Always use a secure connection (SSL) when retrieving mail.

Add Account:

  • Click Add Account.

Send Mail As Your Domain Email:

  • Choose if you want to be able to send mail as your domain email and click Next Step.

Treat as an Alias:

  • Check Treat as an alias and click Next Step.

Enter SMTP Server Settings:

Enter your SMTP Server settings:

  • SMTP Server: Your server's hostname
  • Username: Your full email address (e.g., admin@yourdomain.com)
  • Password: Your email account's password
  • Secured connection using TLS (recommended)

Enter Confirmation Code:

  • Enter the confirmation code sent to your email and click Verify.

Verification:

  • You will receive a Gmail confirmation for the newly added account. Click the confirmation link sent to the account you've added this POP3 account to before you can begin sending email from the newly added email account.

You have now successfully added a POP3 email account using SMTP for outgoing mail to your existing Gmail account.
